New Jersey man sexually assaulted two female students while teaching in West Virginia, police say

An Ocean County resident who formerly taught in West Virginia was arrested Thursday after being accused of sexually abusing two students at a high school there in the early 2000s, authorities said.

Brian Kain, 50, of Brick, turned himself in to the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office in West Virginia, was arraigned and released on $25,000 bail, according to an office news release.

In May, the office was contacted about allegations of sexual assault by a former teacher named Kain against two female students at Morgantown High School between 2000 and 2004, investigators said. He was employed as a substitute teacher at the school.

Cain also worked in the same capacity in the Wheeling, West Virginia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina areas, police said.

Following an investigation, Cain was charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust, the office said.

His employment status in New Jersey was unclear. His attorney's details were not immediately clear.

Anyone with information regarding Cain during his time as a teacher is asked to contact the Monongalia County Criminal Investigation Division at 304-291-7218.
