Utah mother shot her three children in the car before turning the gun on herself

A Utah community is in shock after a 32-year-old woman and her three children were found dead earlier this month in what authorities say was a murder-suicide in the mother's death.

Maribel Ibarra was found dead with her children in a car in West Haven, Utah, on Sept. 3, the Weber County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Friday, Sept. 6. They were all shot, police said.

The statement did not name the children, but a GoFundMe campaign for funeral expenses identified them as Jordan, Yaitza and Alitzel. They were all under the age of 5 and the youngest child was 1, police confirmed to FOX 13 NOW.

“Based on video evidence, physical evidence, witness statements and interviews with family members, investigators believe this was a tragic murder-suicide incident,” Lieutenant Terance Lavely said in the statement last week.

“The evidence suggests that Maribel shot her three children in the back of her car before turning the gun on herself,” Lavely said.

The GoFundMe fundraiser's description states: “Like many people around the world, Maribel Ibarra was sadly overwhelmed by the hopelessness that plagues people with depression, leading her to take actions that we deeply regret.”

The sheriff's office confirmed to PEOPLE that the investigation is ongoing, adding that there is no further news at this time.
