Where is Dennis Bowman, subject of “Into The Fire”, now?

The new Netflix documentary “Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter” tells the tragic story of Aundria Bowman, who was murdered at the age of 14 by her adoptive father Dennis Bowman.

Aundria disappeared from her adoptive family's home in Hamilton, Michigan, in March 1989. For decades, her adoptive father insisted that she had run away from home.

However, the unsolved case of Aundria's disappearance took a new turn when the deceased teenager's biological mother, Cathy Terkanian, learned in 2010 that her daughter had disappeared.

Over the next decade, Terkanian embarked on an incredible quest to find out what had happened to her child.

A major breakthrough in the case came in 2019 when Dennis Bowman was imprisoned for another crime: the 1980 rape and murder of 25-year-old Kathleen Doyle in Virginia.

Dennis Bowman was charged with Doyle's murder and confessed to Aundria's murder. He pleaded guilty to both murders and is now in prison.

Read on to learn more about what Dennis Bowman did and where he is now.

What did Dennis Bowman do to his adopted daughter Aundria Bowman?

Before her death, Aundria was allegedly physically and emotionally abused by Dennis Bowman, several people who knew her as a teenager said in the documentary.

Brenda Bowman testified that Aundria confided in her that Dennis Bowman had sexually harassed her. She then told Aundria that those allegations were “a lie,” according to an excerpt of her recorded testimony shown in the documentary and also on Fox 17. Aundria later retracted her statement, Brenda Bowman said.

After Aundria disappeared in 1989, Dennis Bowman spent decades claiming that Aundria had run away and was missing, but he later confessed to murdering his adopted daughter.

He confessed to the murder in a conversation with his wife while he was already in prison for the rape and murder of Kathleen Doyle.

In the conversation with Brenda Bowman, which was filmed and published in “Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter,” Dennis Bowman said that he met Aundria at her family home the day she disappeared and she said she was leaving.

“We got into an argument and I said, 'No, you're not going, you're not going anywhere.' And she said, 'Fine, I'll just tell the counselors again that you sexually assaulted me.' And I said, 'No, you won't,' and I hit her,” Bowman said.

Bowman said Aundria “fell backwards down the stairs” and when he checked on her, she was not breathing and had no pulse.

He told his wife that he took Aundria's body to a barn on their property and then “called the police and said she was missing.”

Bowman said Aundria's body “lay there for a couple of days.” Then he said he dismembered her body to fit into a cardboard barrel.

However, this story was not true.

Police said they intercepted a letter addressed to Brenda Bowman in which he confessed to burying Aundria in her backyard. The documentary also includes footage of police speaking to Dennis Bowman about the whereabouts of Aundria's body.

Eventually, Dennis Bowman revealed the location of Aundria's body in a phone call to his wife. When they moved into a new house in 1990, a year after Aundria's death, Dennis Bowman took the barrel containing her remains and buried it in their new backyard.

“I dug the hole and put the barrel in it,” he said. “She was right there the whole time.”

Her remains were recovered in a shallow grave at her home in Monterey, Michigan, according to Michigan's WWMT.
