Deputies arrest suspect for sexually abusing a child in Schandler Park

TICE, Fla. – A newly released bodycam video from the Lee County Sheriff's Office shows the moment officers arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a minor at Schandler Park in Tice.

The LCSO searched the park during a lengthy investigation Thursday morning.

According to a police report, officers arrested 39-year-old Raymond De Jesus of Fort Myers at his home on Prospect Avenue.

Bodycam video shows officers in tactical gear surrounding his home while De Jesus hid in the attic.

He was taken into custody.

According to arrest documents, the victim said she was walking to her bus stop around 5:45 a.m. Thursday when a man approached her on her bicycle.

The report states that the man got off his bicycle, dragged the victim to a nearby playground, held a knife to her throat and then sexually assaulted her.

When officers arrived, the victim described his attacker.

Neighbors in the area received an alert on their phone telling them to be on the lookout for a man later identified as De Jesus.

According to the police report, detectives used “analytical research and previous interactions with police” to identify De Jesus as a suspect.

There was an arrest warrant against him for assault and an arrest warrant for the payment of child support.

De Jesus is currently incarcerated in the Lee County Jail.
