Nabi Karim Dargah wall collapses after heavy rains, 1 dead

Delhi, which has been witnessing heavy rains for the past few days, has reported a rain-related death after a wall at a dargah collapsed in central Delhi's Nabi Karim area. Two other people were injured in the collapse of the dargah wall, news agency PTI quoted Delhi Fire Service officials as saying.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received a distress call about the incident at around 7 am and dispatched three fire tenders to the scene. A DFS official said two people had been evacuated, although there were fears that others might be trapped under the rubble.

During rescue operations, a man was found under the rubble. He was taken to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. A local police officer confirmed that the incident occurred at around 6:45 a.m.

The victim was identified as 35-year-old Rehmat, a native of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh. According to police, Rehmat, who drove an e-rickshaw, was living in a makeshift shelter near the wall.

IMD issues orange warning for Delhi

Due to the heavy rains, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city for Friday and asked residents to prepare for extremely bad weather. With this alert, the weather department warned of possible disruptions in transport, including rail, road and air traffic, as well as possible power outages.

The IMD said a low pressure area originating over central India is likely to bring “heavy” to “extremely heavy” rainfall in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh over the next two days.

Meanwhile, rain throughout the night and early Friday morning caused water to seep into several places. The flooding affected traffic and led to traffic jams on several stretches of road.
