“DWTS” pro Peta Murgatroyd speaks out after accident involving five cars

Dancing with the stars Professional Peta Murgatroyd has shared further details about the car accident she was involved in near her home on Monday.

The dancer’s husband, DWTS Star Maksim Chmerkovskiy posted footage on Instagram earlier this week of the aftermath of the incident, which occurred as Murgatroyd picked up his 7-year-old son Shai Aleksander from school.

After showing his shaken wife on camera, Chmerkovskiy turned his camera to the street and described the sequence of events to viewers, explaining that a vehicle crashed into Murgatroyd's car, causing her to collide with another vehicle in front of her.

In the clips, Chmerkovskiy confirmed that no one was injured in the accident. “Peta is fine. Everyone is fine,” he said, although Murgatroyd added that while she was generally OK, she suffered “some kind of whiplash.”

During a Q&A livestream on her YouTube channel The Maks and Peta ShowOn Thursday, the couple responded to a fan's request to elaborate on the incident.

“I can't believe you actually filmed that, like you went on Instagram,” Murgatroyd said to her husband, laughing, to which he replied, “I couldn't believe that happened. Are you kidding me?”

Murgatroyd described the events of that day in detail: “I went to pick up Shai from school and I… well, I pulled into the turning lane to turn left onto one of the streets.”

“She was just standing there and someone crashed into someone behind her,” he interjected.

“Everything happened behind me,” Murgatroyd continued. “And then I was the fourth car to get hit. I flew forward and hit the car in front of me.”

“And when I got there, I didn’t expect that,” Chmerkovskiy interjected. “I expected something like a little boof and [that] Peta overreacted.”

“I felt the tears coming because it was just a shock to fly forward and hit the woman in front of me,” Murgatroyd continued, adding that the driver she hit “got all mad and I was like, 'Yo, that wasn't me. Look at that one over there.'”

In his video series earlier this week, Chmerkovskiy revealed that he was considering buying his wife a minivan to replace her damaged car.

“So, I'm here to get a rental car because the little girl is in the store and she's probably going to be there for a while,” he told his social media followers. “But I was thinking of surprising my wife with one of these bad boys.”

Standing next to a minivan, he continued, “I mean, a roomy, spacious car. The doors? They go sideways like a Rolls Royce or something, you know what I mean? We can make something out of that.”

Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy, who married in 2017, announced in July that they had become parents for the third time. In addition to their newborn, Milan, and their eldest child, Shai, the dancers are also parents to one-year-old Rio John.
