Woman dead, man and dog injured in burglary in Pittsfield Township

Authorities say a woman is dead and a man and a dog are injured in a break-in at a home in Pittsfield Township early Friday.

Township police said they were called to a residence in the 1900 block of Breckland Drive, near Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Oak Valley Drive, around 12:05 a.m. for a report of a burglary.

When officers arrived at the home, they found an 82-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman with serious injuries, authorities said. They also found a dog with serious cuts.

The two were taken to the hospital for surgery. The woman died of her injuries, officials said. The man, who suffered several cuts, is in stable condition, investigators said.

The injured dog was taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

Police spoke with a neighbor who reported someone knocked on his door and walked away. Officers searched the area and found a man matching the neighbor's description, police said.

He was arrested by officers and is now in the Washtenaw County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Investigators said the suspect and the victims do not know each other.

During their investigation, they also learned that prior to the break-in and robbery, the suspect had argued with his relatives at a home in the 1700 block of Weatherstone Drive, about a half-mile from the victims' residence, police said.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information about the burglary, robbery or suspect to call the Pittsfield Township Police tip line at (734) 822-4958.
