ARD regularly provides pop fans with huge shows by Florian Silbereisen. But today's TV evenings could soon be over.

Dortmund – The ARD delights its viewers almost daily with series such as “In aller Freundschaft”, “Rote Rosen” or other, sometimes dramatic, TV series. Now, pop fans could also be in for a drama. The big music shows with Florian Silbereisen are in danger. A decision about their future is imminent.

This is evident from the agenda for the 222nd meeting of the MDR Broadcasting Council. MDR is the regional ARD broadcaster responsible for the Silbereisen shows. The decision on the so-called “Feste Shows” with Florian Silbereisen is therefore point five of the meeting next Tuesday (September 17).

Specifically, the agenda overview mentions an “application for approval of the continuation of the commissioned production 'Die Feste mit Florian Silbereisen (Die Feste)' for Das Erste.” This will determine whether the shows will continue. If the application is rejected, the presenter and pop star will actually be at risk of being fired.

But why is the future of the “Schlagerbooom” in Dortmund and the other shows with Florian Silbereisen hanging in the balance? According to official figures, the ratings are still at a very high level. Although the number of viewers has recently fallen somewhat, that alone should not be a cause for concern.

Rather, there are financial reasons why the future of the formats is unclear. According to TV feature film The MDR is demanding that the other ARD broadcasters also contribute to the costs of the “fixed shows”. The MDR no longer wants to produce its own programs with Silbereisen, it was said as early as 2023. Due to the ARD's austerity measures, other shows have already been dropped from the TV schedule.

It is also conceivable that fans will see fewer shows with Florian Silbereisen each year. A complete ARD exit would therefore be off the table for the time being. TV feature film reported that MDR is open to a continuation of the hit series (all celebrity and TV news on RUHR24).

Florian Silbereisen has been presenting the “Feste Shows” on ARD since 2004. While classical folk music was the focus at first, modern pop hits now predominate. The shows have become bigger and more opulent. Helene Fischer, now one of the most successful German artists of all time, also made her first TV appearance in the ARD series.
