Video surveillance shows gang shooting in computer shop in Smethwick

Surveillance camera footage released by police shows a gang armed with axes and shotguns raiding a computer store in the West Midlands.

According to West Midlands Police, they attacked City Computers in Smethwick on January 12, smashing windows and firing shots inside the store.

One victim was hit in the arm and another suffered a neck injury.

Jamal Hussain was sentenced to nine years and two months in prison at Worcester Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to four charges including possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of a shortened shotgun.

West Midlands Police said he had been identified as the driver of the car, which was recorded on nearby surveillance cameras.

The 22-year-old from Walsall fled the country after the attack and was arrested in May after returning to the UK.

The other five members of the gang have already been convicted.

Det Insp Francis Nock described it as a “planned attack” and said the group had been seen on cameras scouting the route the day before.

“Jamal Hussain was a key figure in this operation and was sentenced to long prison terms as a result,” he said.

“This could easily have been a fatal attack, but miraculously the injuries to the two victims were not serious.”
