Two killed in hit-and-run accident on highway in Yeola Taluka | Nashik News

Nashik: Two people were killed and another person seriously injured when their car was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Ambewadi village on Ahmednagar-Manmad Highway In Yeola Taluka from Nasik around 3am on Friday.
The dead were identified as Nilesh Dagu Lohakare and Akash Ramesh Pawar, both from Sawargaon in Yeola. The injured, Shubham Manmale, also hails from the same village and was driving the car.
They were travelling from Sawargaon to Manmad for work when their car was hit from behind by an unknown driver. When the accident occurred, there was no one at the spot to help them, officials said.
“After the impact, the victims' car was thrown nearly 40 feet into a field on the side of the road. Manmale managed to crawl out and reach some people in the village who contacted the police and informed them about the accident,” said Inspector Sandeep Mandlik of Yeola Taluka police station.
As the rear of the car was badly damaged by the impact, the police had difficulty getting the other victims out of the vehicle. Villagers from Ambegwadi also reached the spot to help the police in the rescue efforts. Eventually, the villagers had to cut open parts of the badly damaged car to get the victims out.
A police report was filed against the unidentified driver for negligent homicide.
