Mystics vs. Dream WNBA prediction, odds and key players for Friday, September 13 (All in

The most important game for the WNBA standings will take place on Friday evening in Atlanta.

The Washington Mystics and Atlanta Dream are both 12-24 – one game behind the WNBA's No. 8 seed – with just four games left to play.

A loss on Friday would hurt both teams' chances of making the playoffs, especially if the Chicago Sky (11.5 points behind Minnesota) somehow manage to pull off an upset on Friday night.

Atlanta is a slight favorite in this game, but the bookies have basically put it on a pick'em.

Here's a look at the odds, the key players to keep an eye on, and my top pick for Friday, September 13th.

Mystics Injury Report

Austin missed the team's last game due to an ankle injury and is possible that she could be out for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Dream Injury Report

Washington Mystics

Aaliyah Edwards: The freshman posted a double-double in Wednesday's blowout win over the Sky, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Edwards has had some ups and downs as a freshman, but with Austin injured again, she could play a major role in the final four games of the season.

Atlanta Dream

Rhyne Howard: Howard's 30-point streak ended in Tuesday's loss to Minnesota, but the Dream will need a good memory for a must-win game on Friday. Howard is averaging 17.9 points per game this season but is hitting just 37.6 percent of her shots.

Since the Olympic break, the Mystics have actually moved above the Dream in net rating, with a record of 6-4 in their last ten games, including three wins over Atlanta, which has a record of 3-7 in the same period.

The Mystics are playing their best basketball of the season in the crucial moments – even without Austin – and I think they are the team to support on Friday.

Washington has impressed on the road, finishing 8-11 and 13-5-1 against the spread in 2024.

After playing much of the season without Austin and Brittney Sykes, the Mystics were bolstered by Sykes' return in the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, Atlanta has been one of the league's weakest offensive and shooting teams all season, and has a home record of just 7-10-1 against the spread.

The Dream have had plenty of chances to take 8th place from the struggling Sky, but have lost time and time again. I'm betting Washington will take their chance on Friday.
