Shocking moment: Iraq veteran shoots pro-Palestinian agitator who attacked him during peaceful Israel demonstration – then stays to give him first aid

A Massachusetts military veteran was arrested for allegedly shooting a pro-Palestinian agitator who attacked him during a pro-Israel demonstration.

Scott Hayes, 47, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and violation of a constitutional right by causing bodily harm after the offender suffered “life-threatening injuries.”

Dramatic footage obtained by Daily Wire shows the moment the attacker charges toward Hayes before a scuffle ensues and the gun is fired.

Hayes, an Iraq war veteran, was attending a pro-Israel demonstration in the Boston suburb of Newton on Thursday when the incident occurred.

The video shows the shot man wearing a Palestinian flag pin and shouting at protesters from across the street.

Massachusetts military veteran Scott Hayes was arrested for allegedly shooting a pro-Palestinian agitator who attacked him in the middle of a pro-Palestinian demonstration.

“You are sick! You are sick,” he shouted, provoking an outraged reaction from the demonstrators.

“You are defending a genocide against over 200,000 Palestinians,” he added before falling silent.

The video then cuts to him sprinting across the street, lunging at Hayes and knocking him to the ground.

“No! No!” a woman shouted before the two got into a scuffle on the ground and the man held Hayes in a headlock.

A shot is heard and the men continue to wrestle, whereupon two more protesters intervene and try to separate the men.

“Take my gun,” a voice believed to be Hayes was heard shouting as he ordered people to move away from the attacker.

The group then helped the man to his feet, but another clip shows him being laid on the ground while Hayes urges bystanders to call 911.

The confrontation began after the man, wearing a Palestinian flag pin, accused the protesters of “supporting genocide.”

“Are you okay, man?” Hayes asked, lifting the man's shirt to examine his injuries.

Hayes is scheduled to be arraigned today in Newton District Court. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller called the shooting a “frightening incident” and urged people to remain calm during the investigation.

“I know people will have a lot of questions, and we will share the information with Newtonians and the press as soon as we are able,” Fuller said. “It's really still early stages of an active investigation.”

Middlesex Police also announced that they would increase patrols around places of worship in the meantime.

The decision to file charges so quickly was criticized by the New England chapter of the Anti-Defamation League.

“Reports that charges were filed immediately before the investigation was completed are cause for concern,” the statement said.

Other protesters attempted to pull the men apart, and Hayes was later seen attempting to provide medical assistance to his attacker.

“No one should be subjected to violence during protests. We call on the Newton Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney to thoroughly investigate the entire incident.

“We are concerned about the escalating tensions and remain in contact with law enforcement and local authorities.”

A GoFundMe campaign has now been set up to pay Hayes' legal fees.

“Although Scott is not Jewish, he defends the Jewish people and their right to self-determination and self-government throughout Boston, the surrounding area, and throughout New England and the United States. He needs help now that this turmoil has entered his life,” the fundraiser said.
