Surveillance cameras document former caretaker's rampage before murdering California man

Surveillance footage from the home of a slain disabled man in Irvine shows it was his former caregiver who drove a minivan into the garage before forcibly entering the home and stabbing his former client to death, according to a police report released Thursday, Sept. 12.

At about 2:15 a.m. on Aug. 5, a 911 caller reported finding his client, a quadriplegic, dead in his bedroom at a residence on Whistling Swan near Wetstone, the critical incident report states. The caller, the victim's current caregiver John Alexander Bash III, told 911 dispatchers he was in his room when he heard a loud explosion.

“I just came into the room to check… because the alarm is about to go off,” the man said. “This looks like a crime scene.”

The man said Bash had returned home from a party a few hours earlier and last saw the victim after putting her to bed and returning to his room down the hall.
