Teenage star of Freddie Flintoff’s “Field of Dreams” dies in horrific car crash

Umar Mahmood, a teenager who appeared on the BBC One show Field of Dreams – Freddie Flintoffdied in a car accident at the age of 18.

Mahmood's school, Penwortham Priory Academy, confirmed he died in the crash near Preston, Lancashire, after an Audi A3 Sport left the road and crashed into trees on Tuesday, September 10.

Another student at Mahmood's school also died. Adam Bodi was 16.

A 17-year-old boy was also seriously injured and remains in stable condition in hospital.

A statement from the school said: “As a school, we are again saddened to hear the news that Umar Mahmood, who had the same accident as Adam and left Priory two years ago, also passed away on Thursday 12 September.”

The school remembers Mahmood as a “bright, hardworking and popular member of our school community” with a passion for geography and cricket.

“It was a privilege for us here at Priory to know Umar,” the school said. “He was a young man who was always considerate of those around him and showed ambition and kindness in everything he did.”

Earlier this week, Penwortham Priory Academy paid tribute to Bodi, saying he was a popular boy with a wonderful sense of humour. On its Facebook account, the school said it was “extremely saddened” by the news of his death.

Field of Dreams Former international cricketer Flintoff returns to his hometown of Preston with the aim of forming a new team with a group of teenagers.

In episode two of Field of Dreams In the first season, released in 2022, 15-year-old Mahmood is shown bowling during a cricket match. When the batsman hits the ball short, Mahmood runs his opponent out.

Afterwards, he said in an interview on camera: “When I realized that I had got him out, I was really happy. The mood was very good, now we have a good chance of winning.”

You can see his teammates putting their arms around him and congratulating him.

In another episode, Flintoff is seen giving Mahmood advice on his hit song, while the teenager listens attentively and nods.

Flintoff recently returned for a new series Field of Dreamson tour, after he himself had a near-fatal car accident while filming the BBC show Top equipmentwhich left him seriously injured. He said he continues to suffer nightmares and flashbacks after the incident.

The Preston Muslim Burial Society has announced that Mahmood and Bodi will be buried at Preston Cemetery at 3pm today (September 13). A spokesperson for the society said: “Those attending are strongly advised to walk or carpool to the cemetery and follow the instructions of the volunteers. May Allah bless the family with Sabr Jameel at this difficult time.”
