Writer Jimmy McGovern will once again captivate audiences with a heartbreaking new drama series.

Set in the heart of Liverpool, the latest work chronicles the troubles and woes of the Mitchell family as they grapple with the horrific consequences of abuse within their own family. Skilfully directed by Julia Ford, the story delves into the complex web of emotions created by sexual assault and abuse within a single family.

Anna Friel, Bobby Schofield, Anna Maxwell Martin and David Threlfall star, alongside Mark Womack, who completes the already impressive cast. More names for the drama are to be announced, reports the Mirror.

McGovern expressed his excitement about the high-caliber talent that has been attached to the project: “I can't believe the cast and crew that have come together for this production. It's a challenging film, but I can't wait for it to be released.”

Colin McKeown, Executive Producer at LA Productions, commented: “This is an extremely challenging and sensitive subject matter which Jimmy McGovern handles with intelligence and care. It is a privilege to work with him again following the success of our previous collaborations on standalone dramas: Common, Care, Reg and Anthony.”

Meanwhile, BBC drama luminary Lindsay Salt praised the incredible team behind this challenging drama, adding: “Jimmy McGovern is one of our greatest playwrights and a master at writing about today's world.”

“His new film sensitively explores the pain of abuse and how it affects not only the victim but also the whole family. That it has been brought to the screen with such a star-studded cast and such a creative team is further testament to the quality of Jimmy's script.”

The 90-minute drama is produced by LA Productions for BBC iPlayer and BBC One and is produced by Donna Molloy. Executive producers include Jimmy McGovern and Colin McKeown for LA Productions and Nawfal Faizullah and Katherine Bond for the BBC.
