What is the story

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s latest release, The Buckingham Murdershad a disappointing start at the box office.

The film was directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Ektaa Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor and Kapoor Khan himself. It is a crime thriller in which the actor plays the role of British-Indian detective Jasmeet Bhamra.

Despite its intriguing premise and strong performances, the film failed to attract audiences on its opening day.

The Buckingham Murders reportedly grossed around Rs 0.12 crore on its first day across all languages ​​in India.

The film had an overall Hindi occupancy rate of 4.56% on Friday, September 13, 2024.

This weak opening collection makes it Kapoor Khan's weakest opener in the last 15 years.

Her previous film with a similar box office result was Main Aurr Wife Khannapublished in 2009.

Film industry expert shares his views

Film expert and producer Girish Johar discussed the film’s performance in an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat.

He said, “It's a very urban and intelligent thriller and they are trying to expand the base by not only releasing it in the Hinglish version but also dubbing it to appeal to a larger Hindi audience.”

Nevertheless, Johar predicted a modest start for the film.

Plot and reception of “The Buckingham Murders”

The Buckingham Murders revolves around Detective Jasmeet Bhamra, who is assigned to a murder case involving a 10-year-old child in Buckinghamshire while simultaneously grieving the loss of her own child.

The film had its world premiere at the 67th BFI London Film Festival in 2023 and received positive reviews.

However, it seems that the film's emotional and suspenseful storyline did not resonate with Indian audiences.

Kapoor Khan's character inspired by 'Mare of Easttown'

In an interview, Kapoor Khan revealed that her character in The Buckingham Murders was inspired by Kate Winslet's role in the acclaimed series Mare by Easttown.

She said: “I have always admired Mare by Easttownand when Hansal Mehta approached me with this role, I knew it was exactly what I wanted to do.”

Despite this fascinating inspiration, the film struggled at the box office.
