One person dead after stabbing in Byward Market

Ottawa police say a man who was stabbed to death in the Byward Market on Thursday night has died.

At 10.45pm, emergency services were called to the Salvation Army Booth Centre on George Street. Paramedics said the victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.

Witnesses outside the shelter told CTV News that the victim stumbled down George Street from Cumberland Street and then collapsed outside the shelter.

The public is asked to avoid the area while police investigate.

This is the 18th murder in Ottawa in 2024.
