Mass crash on motorway – A4 closed in the direction of Cologne, helicopter in action

Eschweiler- On Thursday evening there were two incidents at the A4 near Eschweiler (Aachen region). The road in the direction Cologne is currently blocked.

As a police spokesman told TAG24, a rear-end collision was reported between the Weisweiler and Langerwehe junctions at around 6.10 p.m., in which two people suffered minor injuries.

Initial information suggests that a car caught fire, which is why a fire brigade rescue helicopter was deployed.

However, the police were unable to confirm a mark that evening. The helicopter was then withdrawn, they say.

Due to the increasing traffic congestion, a follow-up accident occurred a few kilometers earlier near the Eschweiler exit, the spokesman continued. A total of eight vehicles were involved.

The accident is currently being recorded on site. The lane towards Cologne is closed from the Weisweiler exit.

It is still unclear how long the closure will last. However, the police assume that the operation will not be completed until late in the evening.
