Maya Rudolph does not answer questions about the death of her mother Minnie Riperton

Don't ask Maya Rudolph any more questions about her mother's death because she has talked about it enough.

The Saturday Night Live Alum said diversity in an interview on Sept. 11 that the one question she would most like to retract is anything related to the untimely death of her mother, Minnie Riperton. “Throughout my career, people have always mentioned my mother, which is wonderful,” she told the station of the famous soul singer, who died of breast cancer at age 31, a few weeks before Rudolph turned seven.

“But then they also bring up the tragedy of losing my mother when I was little,” Rudolph added. “And they ask me how old I was when she died. The other day I said, 'Why the hell are we still doing this?'”

“First of all, if you know me and know who I am, you already have this information. And secondly, who wants to be asked about their childhood trauma every time they talk about their career? I am 52 years old and I survived my childhood trauma.”

Rudolph, who noticed diversity that she was deeply proud of her mother and her influence on music history, adding that she regretted feeling pressured in previous interviews to revisit that traumatic moment.

“I answer the question and then afterwards I ask myself, 'Why the hell did I do that again?'” she said. “Maybe this is the day we just say, 'You can stop asking.' It's just a sad story. But we're talking about great things here, yes, and people are capable of so much more than one thing. But for some reason people really want to focus on the sadness, and I say, 'That's good.'”

The prey The star, who could win her seventh Emmy Award at the Primetime Emmy Awards on September 15, noted that she has reached a point in her life where the “zero-shit hormones” have kicked in and she is no longer trying to please people when it comes to things that make her uncomfortable.

“I'm a polite person and of course it's important to me how I treat other people. And I try not to provoke anyone. I like to be respectful,” she said. “But at some point you have to stand up for yourself. It took me a long time to feel more comfortable in this environment, but now I'm in it.”
