Police say stabbing and robbery victim made up the crimes

MOREHEAD CITY, NC (WITN) – Morehead City Police have released the name of a woman arrested Tuesday who originally said she was stabbed and robbed.

Hailey Willis was charged with making a false statement to police.

Police were called to the area of ​​The Happycakes Cupcakery on Highway 24 last Friday for a stabbing and robbery. They say Willis, 22, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

After further investigations, it is said that the crimes never took place.

Although she was accused of a crime, police initially did not want to release the woman's name. “In the interest of the pending trial, no further details will be released,” they said.

The names of those arrested are public record under state law and WITN urged the City of Morehead to release that information.

Willis has a court date in Beaufort on October 24.
