Missing autistic child found dead in pond

CANTON, Mississippi (WLBT/Gray News) – A missing autistic child was found dead in a pond.

Kaleb Jamison was missing for nearly 12 hours before rescue workers found him in a nearby retention pond.

“It's disturbing when a child runs away and the parents don't know where he or she is,” said Canton Police Chief Otha Brown.

Kaleb disappeared from his apartment on Tuesday around 11:45 a.m.

When police arrived, his father told them that his son was autistic and had somehow gotten out the door.

A neighbor's Ring doorbell camera caught the four-year-old walking through the complex alone in a light blue shirt and pull-ups.

Police called in other law enforcement agencies to help find Kaleb. They went door to door and traversed the woods to find the boy.

Kaleb was found in a retention pond almost 12 hours later.

Brown thanked the volunteers who participated in the search for Kaleb.

Community members laid flowers and balloons to honor Kaleb.
