Then, a week ago, the shock came: “On September 7th, at around 9 p.m., I was on the phone with a friend and suddenly, looking out the window, I noticed that a fire had broken out in the side building,” Annika Kärsten-Hoenig explained to “Bild.”

She then ran out of the house and took refuge in a nearby snack bar. The fire department evacuated all residents and took action to fight the fire.

“At first I didn't know where to put it. All my things were in the apartment,” said Kärsten-Hoenig. It was a good thing that their children Juliano (3) and Jianni (1) were visiting their grandparents in Blankenburg (Saxony-Anhalt) and were therefore out of danger.

The 39-year-old spent the night on a chair next to her husband's hospital bed. An absolute exception, she explained, and she was grateful that the hospital had allowed them to do this.

Fortunately, the fire had not spread to the rear building, so the mother of three was able to return to her home the next morning.

Bad luck seems to have really been following the couple in recent months. Heinz Hoenig has been in hospital since May, waiting for a life-saving operation on his aorta, for which he is still too weak.

There is, however, a ray of hope: During a minor operation, the 72-year-old's hole for artificial ventilation was closed. This means that the “Das Boot” actor can now breathe completely through his mouth and nose again. His condition is stable.
