Stabbing in Etobicoke leaves one dead and another injured

According to police, one person is dead and another is believed to be injured following a stabbing in Etobicoke early Thursday morning.

Shortly after 6 a.m., officers were called to the area between Lake Shore Boulevard West and Islington Avenue. According to police, an altercation broke out there between “several parties.”

A male victim was taken to hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Duty Inspector Dan Pravica said the Homicide Unit is investigating. He said investigators believe a second male victim fled the scene.

“We are concerned about this man because he has not contacted us. We do not believe he has visited a local hospital or sought medical attention,” Pravica said.

It is unclear what led to the altercation and how many people were involved, Pravica explained.

Police said a passerby made the first emergency call and it is believed there are “several” other witnesses to the incident. They are all being asked to contact police.

The ages of the victims are unknown and police have not released descriptions of the suspects.

Road closures are in place and Pravica expects these to remain in place for some time.
