A 19-year-old involved in violent unrest in Southport has been jailed. Louis Instone is the latest person to be jailed following the violent unrest that broke out in the town following the attack on Monday 29 July in which three schoolgirls were killed during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class.

Instone, of Leyland Road in Southport, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today, Thursday 12 September, and pleaded guilty to violent disorder. He was sentenced to one year and six months in prison. He is the 46th person to be sentenced in connection with the riots in Merseyside last month.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Roberts said: “Instone was jailed today for his role in the shocking scenes we all witnessed in Southport. This latest conviction brings the total of 46 people sentenced so far to 101 years.

“In addition, we have made 100 arrests and charged 63, with many more to come. We are continuing to identify more people involved in the unrest in Merseyside and we will not stop until we have brought everyone we can find to justice.”

This week, DCI Roberts issued a stark warning to those involved in the riots: “Keep looking around until we come knocking on your door.” On Wednesday, he told the ECHO: “The incidents in Southport and a week later in Liverpool were shocking and disgusting. The investigation has had to review hundreds and hundreds of hours of video footage to identify the people involved in the riots.”

“The riots we have seen in Southport and Liverpool have caused such trauma and I hope the sentences now being handed down will send a message not only to communities in Merseyside but also beyond.”
