Winnipeg Airport conducts emergency drill on Thursday

Anyone passing through Winnipeg Richardson International Airport on Thursday will likely notice a number of emergency personnel on the tarmac – but the Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA) assures that this is merely an exercise.

In a press release, the WAA said passengers and airport visitors should “not be alarmed” if they notice increased emergency activity on the airfield, including the deployment of emergency vehicles, personnel and airport equipment on the airfield.

The airport authority said it conducts regular exercises throughout the year, such as simulated emergencies and security incidents, to test protocols and procedures with partner agencies.

The WAA said the live emergency exercise will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
