Joppatown High School students return to class Thursday after fatal shooting

BALTIMORE – Joppatowne High School is implementing new safety measures when students return to school after a fatal shooting This shook the community.

Tenth and twelfth grade students return Thursday, with an increased security presence on campus.

Students are Bringing school bags is prohibited to school. Any bag large enough to carry a laptop or books will be confiscated and the student will be searched.

Principal Erica Richardson announced that new lockers will be installed next week for students to store their belongings in during the school day.

“We want our students to be able to process the information they need and relax throughout the day. We also want students who are ready to continue with their classes,” Richardson explained.

The school offers flexible class schedules and grief counseling to help students reintegrate.

“Returning to school is essential to restore continuity for our students as we process this tragedy,” a school official said in a video message to parents.

Thursday and Friday are school days when students will be dismissed three hours early. All students will return to class tomorrow and regular classes will resume on Monday.

School management stresses that these are temporary measures as the community works to restore a sense of normality and safety.
