Man dies after being found shot outside a St. Paul mall

A man is dead and a suspect is in custody after a shooting outside a shopping mall in St. Paul on Tuesday.

St. Paul police said the shooting was reported at 12:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue East. When officers arrived, they found a man “lying outside a business in the mall area” who had been shot in the upper torso.

Firefighters arrived to take the man to Regions Hospital, but he was pronounced dead in the ambulance.

The suspect reportedly fled the area on foot. He was located a short time later by officers from St. Paul and Ramsey County and arrested after a short chase in the 1500 block of Clear Avenue East.

The police also confiscated a handgun.

The identity of the victim will be released at a later date. This is the 17th homicide in St. Paul in 2024.
