Over the last decade, Michelle Beisner-Buck has contributed ESPN's NFL coverage and is an integral part of Monday evening countdown But due to her husband Joe Buck's bizarre accident, which recently recurred before she underwent surgery to repair the ankle he shattered with a golf ball, she was forced to take a temporary break.

It's also been a decade since Joe Buck tied the knot with Michelle Beisner. Beisner was captain of the Denver Broncos cheerleading squad at the turn of the millennium before turning to broadcasting and starting a new career with the NFL Network.

During the summer, the couple decided to take their twin sons to Cabo San Lucas for a vacation. The trip began about a week before Buck was scheduled to compete in the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, so it was only natural that he decided to use some of his free time to play the course at El Dorado Golf & Beach Club with Michelle.

However, things took an unfortunate turn when Buck's better half succumbed to the “freak accident” that left her leg in a cast, and in recent months she has been providing her Instagram followers with updates on the status of a “shattered ankle fracture” that was made worse by “severe nerve damage.”

It was initially unclear how exactly Beisner-Buck broke her ankle, but on Wednesday we finally got the full story from her husband, who summed up the story in a video describing the former cheerleader's decision to “do a headstand at the end of the tee box for good luck” before hitting a drive.

Buck recalls the incident as Michelle not only doing a headstand, but doing a split at the exact moment he touched his driver and sending his TaylorMade off the tee like a rocket before it collided with the inside of her right ankle and “shattered” it.

Michelle says she wore a cast for six weeks to allow the bone to heal before undergoing rehab to treat the damage to the tibial nerve caused by the incident, but she finally had to undergo surgery on Wednesday in what she hopes will be her final step on the road to recovery.
