ROCHESTER, NY — Two people are scheduled to go on trial Thursday morning on murder and attempted murder charges related to the triple shooting in Hazelwood Terrace in August.

The shooting in the Beechwood neighborhood left 19-year-old Rukia Isaack dead and a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old boy injured. Police say the shooting was targeted.

Quentin Riviere and Nasezire Horton, both convicted felons, were arrested for the shooting. Riviere was on parole for burglary and Horton was paroled in March after a previous assault conviction. Police say he violated his parole by stealing a moped just days before the fatal shooting.

Gates' former police chief and New York State Senate candidate James Vanbrederode spoke out after the arrests.

“We are stuck in a parole system where people are not properly monitored, and I have to be honest: New York State owes this family an apology,” Vanbrederode said.
