WALL TOWNSHIP – An Eatontown man was arrested in connection with a stabbing following an argument that occurred at a local motel early Sunday morning, the Wall Township Police Department (WTPD) said in a news release.

On Sunday, September 8, at approximately 3:30 a.m., WTPD patrol officers responded to a report of a man stabbed multiple times at the Economy Inn Motel, 2035 Route 35.

According to the news release, police at the scene found a 50-year-old man from Hampton, Virginia, with multiple stab wounds to his abdomen and back. He was taken by Wall Township EMS to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Police Chief Sean O'Halloran told The Coast Star on Monday that the victim was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital.

According to reports, the suspect fled the scene immediately after the stabbing.

Through investigation by Wall Township Police, the suspect was identified as Geraldo Voglino, 37, of Eatontown. It was determined that Voglino and the victim had an argument over a cell phone, which resulted in Voglino stabbing the victim multiple times with a knife.

Following an investigation that continued throughout Sunday with assistance from the West Long Branch Police Department, Eatontown Police Department and New Jersey State Police, Voglino was arrested without incident at approximately 8:30 p.m. at a residence on Barker Avenue in Shrewsbury Township.

Voglino was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, burglary with a weapon and illegal possession of a firearm. He was taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold to await trial, which will take place in the state Supreme Court.

Det. Steve Swenson was the arresting officer. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident can contact Swenson at 732-449-4500 ext. 1195 or at [email protected].
