Taylor Swift is tied with Beyoncé as the most awarded female artist in VMAs history – Daily Breeze

The 40th MTV Video Music Awards will take place on Wednesday, September 11. The televised event was originally scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, but the date was postponed to avoid clashing with the presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Many celebrities were in attendance at the annual awards ceremony, including Taylor Swift, who won seven awards over the course of the evening, including Video of the Year and Artist of the Year. Swift was the first person in VMA history to win Artist of the Year multiple times. The award was first introduced in 2017 and given to Ed Sheeran.

But that's not the only status Swift has achieved. Her seven wins bring her career total to 30, matching Beyoncé's record. The two are now both the most awarded artists in VMA history. Beyoncé has won 26 VMAs as a solo artist, with the other four wins coming from her time with Destiny's Child and as The Carters with her husband Jay-Z.

Here are the top moments from this year's VMAs that fans couldn't stop talking about on social media.

Before the show began, fans applauded Chappell Roan online after she responded to a photographer on the red carpet who yelled at her. Fans also noticed that her outfits for the evening were reminiscent of Joan of Arc.

Chappell Roan sang “Good Luck, Babe!” on the VMA stage and subsequently won her first VMA Award for “Best New Artist,” which she dedicated to “queer and trans people who are powering pop.”

Megan Thee Stallion, the host of the 2024 VMAs, paid tribute to Britney Spears' memorable performance at the 2021 VMAs with “I'm a Slave 4 U,” which saw Spears dance to the song with a giant yellow python.

Before Flavor Flav presented the first award of the evening, she gave Olympian Jordan Chiles her own bronze watch medal.

The duo ultimately presented Taylor Swift and Post Malone with the Best Collaboration award for their song “Fortnight,” which is featured on Swift's latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. Swifties at home were thrilled to see the onstage interaction between Swift and Flavor Flav, who is a longtime fan of the artist and is dubbed the “King of Swifties” by fans.

Cyndi Lauper introduced Sabrina Carpenter, who performed a mashup of the three singles from her latest album “Short N Sweet,” “Please Please Please,” “Taste,” and “Espresso.”

Carpenter won her first VMA for Song of the Year for her single “Espresso,” which she released earlier this year before her Coachella performance.

Benson Boone surprised the audience, including Carpenter, when he did a forward somersault on stage during his performance of “Beautiful Things.”

Katy Perry received this year's Vanguard Award and performed a mega mashup of some of her biggest hits, including “California Girls,” “Teenage Dream” and “Dark Horse.” The award was presented to her by her husband, Orlando Bloom.
