Half-naked, headless woman's body found on Kanpur-Delhi highway

A woman's half-naked and headless body was found on the Kanpur-Delhi highway in Gujaini, sending police into a frenzy. After locals spotted the body on the highway in Kanpur's Gujaini on Wednesday, they informed the police, who reached the spot and started investigation.

The police have not made any breakthrough in the case and are trying to ascertain the identity of the woman. Ravinder Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (south), said the woman's bones and teeth were broken. No mobile phone, bag or identity card was found near the body.

“The woman's body has been sent for postmortem. There are marks of a blunt object on the body. We are investigating this case from both murder and accident point of view,” DCP Kumar said. The DCP said the police network has been activated to collect information about the deceased.

To make further progress in the case, the police are also examining the video surveillance cameras around the highway.

While the immediate cause of the woman's death was unclear, Kanpur Deputy Commissioner Harish Chandra said it may have been a road accident.

“It is possible that the accident was caused by a large vehicle. The head was not missing. It was torn due to the injury. It has been found now. Clothes have also been found. More things will be revealed after the autopsy report,” he said.

Political blame game in Up

Meanwhile, the incident has sparked a political blame game in the state, with opposition parties attacking the Yogi Adityanath government for poor public order and crimes against women.

“In yet another heartbreaking incident of crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh, a headless, naked body of a woman was found on the Kanpur highway. Morality dictates that the evidence of the ruthless violence and immense physical torture inflicted on the deceased should not be mentioned,” said Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav.

“The incident must be investigated impartially and the perpetrators must be identified and punished in a way that will create fear in the minds of those who commit such crimes. I hope that the BJP government will get an investigation into the incident by rising above politics,” he demanded.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi echoed the statement of her bloc partner INDIA and stressed that 86 women are raped and abused every day in India.

Calling the Kanpur incident heartbreaking, Gandhi said, “Be it at home or outside, on the street or in the office, women are not safe anywhere. Not only is half the population of the country not safe, but because of this brutality, the morale of millions of women is shattered every day.”
