Mariella Ahrens, 55, will return to the popular TV series “Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten” after almost 30 years. As the actress revealed to the broadcaster RTL, she will “cause a lot of chaos” in her role as Elinor. Elinor will surprise her almost-husband Jo Gerner (Wolfgang Bahro, 63) with his twins, which she has since given birth to.

Elinor brings with her “lots of drama and confusion”

“I think Jo Gerner will be shocked because we didn't part on good terms back then,” said Mariella from her character's perspective. Seeing him again for the first time in a long time will “not be easy” for Elinor either. The comeback will bring “a lot of drama and confusion,” as Ahrens announced. The unexpected offspring is the second surprise for Gerner after Elinor left him at the altar.

“Elinor is self-confident and knows exactly what she wants. She is not always fair, but her reasons for this are understandable. She often seems cool because she has experienced a lot of difficult things in her private life,” Ahrens revealed about her character in the series. “Nevertheless, she has a big heart, but she rarely shows it,” she explained. The actress herself could not identify with her character. But that is exactly what makes her take on the role all the more appealing. Her return as Elinor brings back “many memories of that time,” as she said in the press statement. Today, the set is “much more relaxed and less hectic,” which she is happy about.

This has changed in Ahrens’ life

Since 1995, not only has the TV series developed, Ahrens has also changed. “Back then, I was still unsure in many areas and hardly dared to express my opinion. Today, I am more confident, even in my job,” said Ahrens. “I have had both positive and negative experiences that have shaped me and helped me develop,” she added. In addition to her self-confidence, she has also worked on her style. “Looking back, I don't like what I wore back then at all,” she said, laughing.

During her “GZSZ” break, Ahrens appeared in other TV series, including “Der Bergdoktor”. She made guest appearances in the cult series “Unter uns” in 2020 and in “In aller Freundschaft” in 2006 and 2010. She also won a leading role in the television film series “Ein Fall von Liebe”. Most recently, in 2023, she took part in the RTL game show “Die Verräter” with other celebrities such as singer Anna-Carina Woitschack.

From October 25th, Mariella Ahrens will be back on RTL's “GZSZ”. The episodes are available one week before broadcast and on the station's own streaming service RTL+.
