Wrong-way driver on the A 643

This morning (Thursday, September 12th) the police received a wave of emergency calls. The reason was a wrong-way driver on the BAB643 motorway. A silver VW Passat was driving in the wrong direction coming from the Mainz motorway junction.

During the incident, one driver had to brake hard to avoid a head-on collision. The wrong-way driver eventually stopped and then turned his car around on the highway. An eyewitness warned an approaching truck, which was able to brake just in time.

Consequences for the driver

The driving license of the wrong-way driver, an elderly gentleman, was retained.
