The Supreme Court has upheld a life sentence for Cho Sun, who killed one man and injured three others in a shooting spree in Seoul's Gwanak district last summer.

The Supreme Court also upheld a lower court's order that the 34-year-old killer must wear an electronic tracking device for 30 years, saying on Thursday that it could not find any injustice in the trial or in the sentencing.

Cho carried out a stabbing near Sillim subway station on July 21, 2023, inflicting fatal knife wounds on a man in his 20s and then wounding three men in their 30s in a nearby alley.

Cho pleaded temporary insanity after previously telling investigators that he had wanted to bring bad luck to apparently happy people.

The prosecution demanded the death penalty, but Cho was sentenced to life imprisonment; an appeals court upheld the verdict.
