Joe Burrow responded perfectly to the question about the viral water bottle video

Joe Burrow did not have a good start to the 2024 season.

He and his Cincinnati Bengals lost 16-10 at home to the New England Patriots. The star quarterback managed just 164 yards in the air and suffered three sacks. Burrow was missing wide receiver Tee Higgins, who was injured shortly before kickoff; Ja'Marr Chase did not practice for most of the summer, so there are reasonable reasons to believe that the situation will improve as the season progresses. Still, it was not an encouraging start.

Burrow's bad luck on Sunday got worse: After the game, fans speculated about the health of his wrist — but not because of his subpar day in the pocket. Rather, the questions stemmed from a video that went viral of Burrow picking up a water bottle. The concern seemed to be the fact that he used his entire arm, not just his wrist, to grab the water bottle.

It's the kind of unfounded speculation that sports fans love. And on Wednesday, Burrow provided the perfect answer to a question like that: utter confusion.

“I don't know, I drank water,” Burrow said when asked about his thoughts on the video. “I can't say I saw that or know what anyone is talking about.”

In any case, the Bengals' PR team should be happy with the way Burrow handled the matter.

The Bengals star has another chance to prove his wrist is fine on Sunday when Cincinnati visits rival Kansas City Chiefs for a late afternoon slugfest at Arrowhead Stadium.
