Council addresses impact of Southport stabbings

It will also include a statement from the Mayor of Sefton, paying tribute to the bravery and support of the public – not only during the stabbing, but in supporting people and communities afterwards.

In an interview with BBC Radio, Merseyside councillor Paulette Lappin praised the “incredible courage” of the emergency services.

“We are completely indebted to our emergency services, the police, the ambulance and the fire service, and all the people who went out to save these children and did their best,” she said.

“They are incredibly brave and some of them were faced with the most horrific and disgusting turmoil the next day. So they came to our aid again and offered us shelter. We want to thank them and are absolutely grateful for what they have done for us.”

The Council also plans to host a community reception in the fall to recognize a number of individuals, professionals and organizations.
