No evidence that Kamala Harris injured a teenager in a hit-and-run accident

The same claim was circulating elsewhere To X, on facebook., Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Rumble And Gettr.

Brown says the hit-and-run accident occurred on July 7, 2011 at the intersection of Post Street and Jones Street in downtown San Francisco.

“Insufficient evidence” for AI

AFP has consulted several experts to determine whether the video circulating online is authentic. Some reports suggest the clip was created using artificial intelligence, while other analysts say the video is genuine, even if Brown's claims are inaccurate.

Hany Farid, a leading digital forensics expert at the University of California-Berkeley (archived here), told AFP the interview did not appear to be computer-assisted.generatedHe said generative AI can have difficulty producing audio longer than a minute or two.

“I find (The) The only reason we're having this conversation is because everyone keeps talking about artificial intelligence, and every time we see something fake, people want to label it as AI,” Farid said on September 11.

“But it's important to understand that there are many ways to lie. By far the easiest is to put someone in a wheelchair and tell them what to say.”

Siwei Lyu, director of the Media Forensic Lab at the University buffalo (archived here) also said there was “not enough evidence” to believe the clip was created using AI.

He told AFP he analyzed the footage using seven different AI detection modules. While one suggested it was machine-generated, six others were unsure or did not have enough evidence of tampering.

No trace of Brown

AFP seesearched the phone book for references to a San Francisco resident named Alicia or Alisha Brown, but found no one her age.

The archives of local newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle, the Examiner and the Mercury News, also did not contain any articles or obituaries in which Brown.

The X-rays shown in the video as evidence of her injuries are incorrect out, either.

Fake news Website

The interview with Brown first appeared on a website called KBSF – San Francisco News. The site was not online in September. 11but an archived version is available at tHe Internet Archive.

The BBC examined the domain and found that it resembled a network of fake news websites that AFP had previously fact-checked.

Although the website resembles a local television station, it does not appear in the US Federal Communications Commission database of approved Broadcasters.

KBSF-LP is a radio station in the U.S. state of Oregon, but the nonprofit organization that owns the station said AFP in an email dated 6 September that The Site is not affiliated with and does not operate in California.

The KBSF – San Francisco website states that the site is operated by a company called KBSF Bay Area. Secretary of State of California has no records of any company of this name.
