Neil Gaiman could step down from the final season of “Good Omens”

Following the announcement earlier this week that Amazon Prime Video and the BBC have begun pre-production on the final season of their A good omen Deadline is now also reporting that Neil Gaiman, co-author of the original novel, may be leaving the series altogether.

According to Deadline, Gaiman has offered to step down from the third and final season of the series – on which he was set to be one of the remaining executive producers following the sudden exit of director Douglas McKinnon – following “crisis talks” within the industry about the future of the Terry Pratchett adaptation, which reportedly saw pre-production on the series halted earlier this week ahead of its scheduled January 2025 shoot. io9 has reached out to Amazon for comment. A good omen' future with or without Gaiman, and we will update this post if and when we receive an answer.

The move comes after Gaiman was accused in July of sexual assault by several women with whom the author had previously had consensual relationships. The allegations were aired in a podcast series by Tortoise Media called Master: The allegations against Neil GaimanFollowing the series, several other women came forward in Rolling Stone's coverage. Deadline further noted that Gaiman's offer to resign was not an admission of the allegations made against him in Tortoise Media and Rolling Stone's coverage, and that the accusations had “troubled” the author.

The alleged break at A good omenPre-production also comes at a time when several other Gaiman projects are set to make major progress. Disney's film adaptation of his 2008 novel The Graveyard Book was also put on hold earlier this month. As IndieWire first reported, the film's hiatus was the result of “several factors, including allegations [against Gaiman]”, and the film was not discarded.

Meanwhile, Netflix has plans to reveal more from the second season of its critically acclaimed adaptation of Gaiman's comic series. The Sandman later this week as part of its “Geeked Week” presentation, although it is still unclear how and if the streamer will address Gaiman's relationship with the project. The streamer also recently canceled another Gaiman-related series, Dead Boy DetectivesLate last month, coverage of the show's cancellation made no mention of the ongoing allegations against the author.
