A woman was hospitalized early Monday evening with suspected minor injuries after the driver of a pickup truck accidentally struck her motorized wheelchair scooter in Sturgeon Bay. According to the police report, the 57-year-old woman was crossing Georgia Street just before 6 p.m. and traveling northbound on North 14th Avenue in the crosswalk when a 69-year-old man from Luxembourg collided with her scooter after stopping his vehicle at the intersection and traveling westbound on Georgia Street. Witnesses said the sun was so bright they could barely see what was ahead of them while driving, and that the truck barely struck the woman on the scooter. The scooter did not tip over, nor was the woman ejected by the impact. The truck driver said the sun was blinding and he did not see her until it was too late. The woman was treated by EMS and taken to Door County Medical Center. The pickup driver was cited for failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian.
