Child dies in accident on the “Harmony of the Seas”

A tragic accident occurred on one of the world's largest cruise ships: a boy fell headfirst from an interior balcony.

A twelve-year-old boy fell to his death on the cruise ship giant “Harmony of the Seas”. The tragic accident occurred in the central interior area of the ship over the weekend, reported the specialist portal “Cruise Radio”. The child was on a Caribbean cruise with his family to celebrate a birthday. At the time of the accident, the ship was on its way back to Galveston in the US state of Texas.

The boy fell head first from an interior balcony. The cruise company Royal Caribbean then informed the next passengers who wanted to start their journey in Galveston that their trip would be delayed due to an investigation.

The Daily Mail quoted witnesses as saying that the boy was playing with a group of other children before falling over the balcony railing. He is said to have fallen from his family's cabin on deck 14 into the atrium on deck 8. “My daughter was friends with him,” the newspaper posted on Facebook as a participant on the cruise. “She is so upset.”

Another passenger reported seeing birthday decorations on the family's cabin door. According to the portal “Cruise Radio”, other witnesses saw two chairs on the inside balcony – the children may have used them to climb on while playing.

The “Harmony of the Seas” was the world's largest cruise ship when it was launched in 2016. It is 362 meters long and can accommodate around 7,000 passengers. In 2019, an underage passenger died after falling from a balcony: the 16-year-old had tried to get to his cabin via the balcony because he had forgotten his key card.
