Sexual abuse case: Supreme Court grants interim bail to director VK Prakash | Onmanorama News

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday granted interim bail to director and actor VK Prakash in a sexual assault case. The Kollam Pallithottam police booked Prakash under Section 354 (assault or use of criminal force to outrage modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint by a screenwriter.

According to the complaint, she was sexually harassed by Prakash after he invited her to a hotel in Kollam to pretend to discuss a film project. The alleged incident took place on April 4, 2022. The screenwriter, who hails from Ernakulam, said the director made unwanted advances, including trying to kiss her and push her on the bed. She added that he also sent her Rs 10,000 as a bribe to keep the incident under wraps.

After allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation against several actors and directors emerged following the release of the Hema Judicial Committee report, the state government on August 25 announced the setting up of a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the allegations.
