Liberty vs Wings Predictions, Tips & Odds – 9-10

The New York Liberty are just a few wins away from securing first place in the WNBA, and a two-game tournament against the Dallas Wings could seal the victory.

My analysis
The New York Liberty have finished their last 20 games with 17 wins – the league's top win during that period – and have the best performance in the WNBA with a point differential of +9.7.

Their offense was above average, ranking top four in points, rebounds and assists, but they really got the defense on point. New York has had the best stopping unit in the league for the last 20 years, holding teams to 74.8 points per game.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Wings have bowed out of the playoff race with a whimper, getting crushed by the Chicago Sky 92-77. At best, the Wings can play the role of spoiler, as their remaining five games (NY x2, Seattle, Indiana and Las Vegas) will see all the teams competing in the playoffs fighting for position.

Offensively, they can definitely compete with anyone—they score 85.7 points per game—but their defense keeps the Wings at the bottom of the standings, allowing a pathetic 94 points per game.

New York won both finals of a two-game series against Dallas on August 20 and 22 at Barclays Stadium, winning 94-74 in the opening game and 79-71 two days later.

In both games, the Liberty dominated the court and had a +27 rebounding advantage. New York also won the turnover battle and has a clear +17 point advantage from turnovers. The Liberty will dominate the Wings again to make up for that large lead.

Breanna Stewart had another great night, scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Vegas. In 10 games since returning from the Olympics, she has scored 21+ points seven times.

Stewart was also the team's leading scorer in both victories over the Wings, scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds in the opener and 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the postgame.

Arike Ogunbowale has scored 21+ points in eight of ten games. The only two where she didn't reach the 20-point mark were against the same Liberty that limited the WNBA's second-leading scorer to 17 and 19 points, respectively. Ogunbowale shot 38.7% of her shots in those two games, and I don't think that will improve this time around.
