Alyssa Thomas has to take back her words after Caitlin Clark's prediction resurfaces

On Monday, the WNBA's X-Account released a graphic showing the league's current assists leaderboard after 11 weeks of the regular season.

Topping the list is Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark, who has totaled 306 assists (an average of 8.5 per game) this season. Following Clark is Connecticut Sun star forward Alyssa Thomas with a total of 270 assists (an average of 7.7 per game). Other than these two superstars, no one has reached the 230-assist mark this season.

Clark's decisive lead over Thomas in assists prompted fans to repost an X-interaction between Thomas and Sun guard DiJonai Carrington from earlier this year that hasn't aged well for Thomas.

On April 7, Carrington wrote on X: “Caitlin could lead the league in assists this year.”

“Don’t play with me, Nai,” Thomas replied the same day, along with a laughing and crying emoji.

Also of note, WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes – who is constantly making headlines for her apparent failure to acknowledge Clark's success this season – responded to Thomas' reply with three laughing and crying emojis.

Today, more than five months later, Carrington's prediction has come true.

Thomas set a WNBA record for most assists in a single season last year with 316 assists. There's no doubt Clark will break that record if she stays healthy. In fact, she could surpass Thomas' record in the Fever's next game, which is Wednesday against the Las Vegas Aces.

While Thomas and Swoopes scoffed at Carrington's prediction at the time, Clark will have the last laugh.
