Police file charges against suspected shooter who seriously injured 2-year-old in drive-by accident

Columbus police announced they have filed charges in connection with the shooting of a 2-year-old boy in the head in August.

Xavior McGrapth, 21, is charged with aggravated assault for the July 7 shooting in the 4000 block of Carlton Avenue. Charging documents say McGrapth saw someone standing on the porch and told the driver to turn around.

McGrapth pulled out a gun and fired several times, investigators wrote. Only a two-year-old boy was shot in the head.

The boy's mother told WSYX a few weeks after the shooting that he was admitted to Nationwide Children's Hospital in critical condition. After being taken off a ventilator and no longer sedated, the little boy was doing well enough to be moved out of the intensive care unit and into a new room.

In a case released earlier this month, Columbus police filed charges against a man accused of driving the vehicle.

Tihan Hankins, 22, was charged with aggravated assault on July 18. The case was held under seal until August 30, when a judge ordered bail set at $500,000.

The case has not yet been presented to a grand jury and Hankins has not entered a plea.

According to court documents, the information led to Hankins, who then allegedly admitted to driving the car when McGrapth opened fire.

Another man, Deshon Glenn, was charged with weapons possession after police said a search warrant related to the suspect's vehicle resulted in weapons allegedly being found in Glenn's possession.

Glenn pleaded not guilty. McGrapth is scheduled to go to trial on Tuesday.
