Families remember girls killed in ATV accident

ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) – Friends and family will gather Tuesday evening to remember two teens who died in an ATV accident. Collision at the weekend.

The Orangeburg County Coroner identified the teens as 8-year-old Ania Chalk and 16-year-old Jada Fludd of Calhoun County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when a semi-trailer truck collided with the girls' SUV near the intersection with Scenic Drive.

According to investigators, the driver of the semi-trailer was not injured in the accident.

Just hours before Fludd's 17th birthday, the girls went for a ride on the ATV.

Chalk's grandmother said she never thought they wouldn't return.

“They did everything together. It's actually sad, but they died together,” said Yoland Johnson, Chalk's grandmother.

Kareem Fludd, Jada's brother, said he loved both girls and will never forget the impact they had on his life. He said his sister was always the best person to be around and has continued to be so since his sister's death.

“They were very happy, as if everyone around them loved them, no matter who it was, you didn't know them, they were very lovable, to me they were almost perfect,” said Kareem.

Family members said the girls had generous hearts and will be remembered for their ability to live life to the fullest and for their friendship.

Chalk's grandmother said the eight-year age difference between the girls was undetectable.

“It felt like my heart was breaking too – I just love those girls so much, like I said I had them, that's how I feel about them, there's nothing I wouldn't do for both of them, my niece, my sister, those are my girls, I love them,” Kareem said.

Fludd visited Orangeburg High School for Health Professionals and said, “We held a brief vigil and moment of silence for Jada this morning before school started, with music and words of comfort from Jada's friends, school administration and school staff. There will also be a balloon release in her honor on Tuesday, September 9th at 1 p.m. on her birthday.”

The measures range from keeping phones turned off during class to requiring that phones...

Fludd's school said it had several professional grief counselors on campus for students and school staff who needed support. Members of the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Department and many local clergy members were also on campus.

The family will release a balloon to commemorate the girls' lives and what would have been Fludd's 17th birthday.
