Bloody week in Manchester: Fifth man shot dead

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Five people have been murdered in Manchester in the past week, with the latest victim being gunned down in a bar on Green Street in Knockpatrick on Monday night.

According to police, two people were also shot and injured in the latest incident.

Local residents and police named the latest victim as Kevin Brown, 46, also known as “Cheese,” a resident of the community.

According to preliminary reports, Brown was among the patrons in the bar around 10 p.m. when armed assailants opened fire on them. Three people sustained gunshot wounds, including Brown, who subsequently collapsed outside the bar near his home.

Brown's death was pronounced at the hospital, while the two injured men were admitted for further treatment.

The bloody week began last Tuesday evening when two men were shot and one man injured in a bar in Bottom Albion, Manchester.

The bloodshed continued last Wednesday when a man was shot and killed in a bar in Christiana.

Two days later, Christiana was again the scene of a murder when a man was gunned down after dropping off his stepdaughter at a school.

Police statistics show that 37 murders have been recorded in Manchester since the start of the year up to Saturday 7 September, compared to 29 in the same period last year.
