Three new victims in the Russian army – Nepalese families are asked to donate DNA

KATHMANDU, Nepal – Three more Nepali citizens have been confirmed dead in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, bringing the total number of Nepalese killed in Russian military action to 43.

The Ministry of External Affairs has named the latest victims as Mohan Tamang from Udayapur, Dhruva Gharti from Baglung and Ranjit Gurung, whose addresses are unknown.

Russian authorities forwarded medical records confirming her death to the Nepalese embassy in Moscow.

Russia has also sent a letter to Nepal asking it to provide DNA samples from 35 other people.

The aim of the appeal is to submit DNA samples from close family members to help identify the bodies of people who died while serving in the Russian army.

DNA samples from 22 people were previously submitted, but Russia has not yet provided any information on these samples.

On September 2, the Nepalese Embassy in Moscow asked the Consular Services Department in Kathmandu to send the DNA samples.

The consular office has called the family members of the person concerned and asked them to travel to Kathmandu and provide DNA samples for testing.
