Leicester Square stabbing suspect will not face trial until 2025 after 11-year-old girl was stabbed to death | UK | News

The trial date of a man charged with attempted murder after stabbing an 11-year-old girl to death in Leicester Square has been set before he had entered a plea..

Ioan Pintaru, 32, of no fixed address, appeared for a brief hearing at the Old Bailey in London today but was not charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife article.

However, a hearing date has been set for the Romanian citizen's case, but not until May 6, 2025.

The case was adjourned and he was remanded in custody.

On Monday 12 August, police were called to Leicester Square at 11.34am following reports of a stabbing.

The 11-year-old victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found to have stab wounds and was taken to hospital, where her injuries were deemed serious but not life-threatening.

Initially, it was assumed that the girl's 34-year-old mother was also injured. However, it was later confirmed that the blood from her daughter's injuries had been mistaken for her own injuries.

At a hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court last month, it was revealed that the girl was allegedly put in a headlock and stabbed eight times.

The court was told that she suffered injuries to her face, shoulder, neck and wrist in the attack.
