Larger display, new health functions and also with titanium case

There have been rumors about the new Apple products for months, now they are finally official! Apple presented its new product portfolio on September 9th at the “It's Glowtime” event in Cupertino. In addition to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, the company also unveiled the new Apple Watch Series 10 and a matte black Apple Watch Ultra 2.

10th generation with new features and design

Exactly ten years to the day after the launch of the very first Apple Watch, the company today presented the latest generation of its smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 10. The new watch brings some improvements in the areas of health, design and functionality – but the expected redesign did not materialize.

Larger display and new case sizes

As has already been revealed from numerous leaks, the Apple Watch Series 10 also has a new, noticeably larger display on the front, which is, however, still rounded at the sides. Only the Apple Watch Ultra 2 (test) still has a completely flat display on the front.

Apple has also adjusted the case sizes: instead of the old 41 mm and 45 mm models, there are now versions with 42 mm and 46 mm. This means that the display of the regular Apple Watch has grown to a size that was previously only available on the Ultra.

The 46 mm version of the Series 10, for example, has a 2 inch display. But despite the larger screen, the case remains relatively slim at 9.7 mm, which makes the watch more compact. The glass used on the front is intended to provide greater scratch resistance. In addition to the standard version made of polished aluminum – in the colors jet black, rose gold and silver – Apple also offers a version with a titanium case, which is available in the colors natural, gold and gray.

Health functions expanded

The Apple Watch Series 10 also has new features in the area of health monitoring. New is the detection of sleep apnea, which records pauses in breathing during sleep. This function is based on the watch's sleep tracking and analyzes the sleep data after several nights.

An evaluation is carried out every 30 days to inform the user if there are signs of sleep apnea. This function will also be activated for the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 via a software update at a later date.

New watch faces and media playback

For swimmers and divers, there is also an automatic water temperature measurement as well as the well-known depth app, which is automatically activated when diving. With the Series 10, Apple is also introducing new watch faces, including the “Reflections” watch face for the titanium models and a new “Photos” watch face that displays personal images on the home screen.

Another new feature is the ability to play music and podcasts directly through the watch's built-in speaker without having to rely on headphones.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 in black

In addition to the brand new Apple Watch Series 10, the company has also introduced a new color variant of the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The Ultra model is now available in a new “Satin Black Finish.” There are also matching new strap options, such as the titanium Milanese Loop in natural and black, as well as new Alpine Loop colors.
